CRATEFULL OF BASCHZ a.k.a. the BMX Boomboxxx

Cratefull Of Baschz is a mobile musical installation and 'glimlach generator' by multimedial visual artist Baschz (Mañana, SingerSweatShop, TicToc, Betamaxxx) with deejay and builder extra-ordinaire DJ Van Rippendael (Ghettoblaster Soundsystem, TicToc).

It was first realised in 2009 as a one-time self-deejay installation for Mañana's ECOÑO event in Museum TENT in Rotterdam as Baschz’ take on the documentary Made In Queens, in which Trinidadian kids in Queens, NY have transformed their BMX bikes into bigass rolling soundsystems.

It got such good reactions and several immediate applications so Baschz decided to team up with good friend and fellow TicTocian deejay Van Rippendael to work on an all new sturdy ridable 2.0 version.

The installation uses milk crates and their alternate use (storage for records, spraycans, etc.) as visual interpretation for huge black speakers on Baschz's old BMX. It carries Baschz, a soundsystem (operated on either battery or 220V) with different loudspeakers, colour changing LED-lights and Baschz' personal belongings, ready to cruise the globe, with Van Rippendael mixing live from the back of the bike.

Cratefull Of Baschz can be found cruising through streets, over festival terrains, at personal parties and exhibition spaces. Changes or additions to the installation to fit the theme and venue it plays at are always discussable.
